The authors of Unity in Mission believe that Christians may become more cohesive as they focus on the topic of unity in mission, emphasizing how they may cooperate more on behalf of the mission of the church. The Christian life represents a spiritual journey in which Christians are saved, flourish spiritually, and minister to others—individually and collectively. The book talks about already existing ways that Christians share unity in mission through how they minister through word and sacrament. The book also challenges readers to consider additional ways by which they may create greater unity in mission. Cooperation in ministry includes holding together emphases that churches have neglected: Word and Spirit, grace and responsibility, proclamation and activism, fidelity and contextuality, preservation and experimentation, equality and diversity, gender and ethnicity. Issues discussed in Unity in Mission deal with the complexities of ecumenical concern and interfaith reality. Evaluations as well as solutions are offered for engendering greater understanding and appreciation among Christians so that there may indeed occur greater unity in mission.
